fresh film | Lyazzat Khanim | 2023 | Kazakhstan | 2’55
fresh film marks the conclusion of the “fresh painting” series, exposing the pitfalls of consumerism. Using photorealistic paintings of everyday foods, like fruits and vegetables, the film critiques the exaggerated nature of the art market. Subotopic | Nikki Schuster | 2023 | Autriche, Allemagne | 7’00
In Subtopic, the viewer’s gaze dives below the water’s surface downwards into ever deeper layers of water. In morphed single-frame switching, bizarre pictorial plants and insect creatures pass by the viewer. One dives into lightless spaces until one penetrates a surface of light again. Diving deeper and deeper, existing parallel worlds are made visible under water and new utopias are created.
