BLUE RAIN

Aurélien JEANNEY

Tramway stops of Saint-Jacques, Maison de la Culture, Jaude et Gaillard

The work:

Blue Rain tells the story of four plant lovers, patiently waiting for the rain that will bring their flowers to life. Augmented reality gives us a second narrative, a continuation of the image painted on the wall. Blue Rain doesn’t just adorn a wall, it tells a story, a story of the connection between humans and nature, a story of wonder and contemplation. It invites passers-by to pause, to look up at the sky to admire the ephemeral beauty of the rain, and to meditate on the transformative power of nature.

Interview by Fanny Bauguil (VIDEOFORMES relay teacher)

  • How would you describe this installation? What do we see? What do we hear? What do we do?

Blue Rain tells the story of four lovers of plants, patiently waiting for the rain to bring their flowers to life. Augmented reality gives us a second narrative, a continuation of the image painted on the wall. Blue Rain doesn’t just adorn a wall, it tells a story, a story of connection between man and nature, a story of wonder and contemplation. It invites passers-by to pause, to lift their eyes to the sky to admire the ephemeral beauty of rain, and to meditate on the transformative power of nature.

  • What is it about?

Of resilience, of the power of nature and of taking time for contemplation.

  • Is this the first time this installation has been presented to the public? Can you tell us a little about the process involved in creating this work?

Blue Rain has already been presented to the public in another form: as a mural (then called Purple Rain). And more precisely in the Morvan, in the spa town of Saint-Honoré-les-Bains.

  • Which artists (in all fields) or, more generally, which art forms have inspired your creative process, and what references, if any, do you allude to in this installation?

Many artists feed my work in very different fields. From the painting of Tarsilo Do Amar to that of Andy Rementer, via the illustrations and expertise of artists like Paul Cox and Fredun Shapur. But also the music of Philipp Glass or Khruangbin. A single watchword and a single point in common between all these references: exploration and wonder.

  • What are the difficulties, constraints, challenges… encountered during its development?

Augmented reality poses a technical challenge to the creation of an image. The work must be read by the augmented reality engine. This can mean creating dozens of versions of the work until the technology works perfectly.

  • Can you give us one or more web addresses where we can see your work?

The easiest way is to follow my work on Instagram: Instagram.com/maisontangible

  • A few keywords that would go well with your installation?

Tangible, Dreamlike, Geometric

  • A few words about your artistic career? When did you first become interested in digital art? Do you manage to make a living from your creative activity?

I’ve been a multidisciplinary artist for nearly 17 years. And I fell into digital art almost 10 years ago. I live and work in Paris.
