Since 2010, VIDEOFORMES has been offering secondary schools in the Académie de Clermont-Ferrand the chance to host an artist in a classroom, with the aim of designing, producing and exhibiting a creation in the field of hybrid and digital arts. The project culminates in a group exhibition and vernissage during the festival.

This project is part of an approach to image and video art education that is referenced in school curricula.

It provides students with a collective experience of creating a project with an artist proposed by VIDEOFORMES and professional supervision.

This year, 6 establishments are taking part in the project:

  • LGT PR Godefroy de Bouillon / Clermont-Ferrand, 63
  • LGT Albert LONDRES / Cusset, 63
  • Lycée Valérie-Giscard-d’Estaing / Chamalières, 63
  • CLG Antoine de Saint-Exupéry / Lempdes, 63
  • CLG Georges ONSLOW / Lezoux, 63

Stroll through chromapolis

This project is rooted in the observation of the shapes and colors that make up our everyday environment, in this case the city of Vichy.
Through the creation of videos and drawings, the students propose a poetic rereading of architecture by staging everyday objects and colors in space. The human figure also finds its place, not as a central character, but as a form among forms. His body, his gestures, become lines and movements, integrating harmoniously into this aesthetic exploration.

The videos are “tableaux in motion”, living paintings in which shapes, colors and textures interact to tell a contemplative story.

Le P’tit Déjeuner sur l’herbe

Is it possible to eat while respecting the planet?

As we pondered the dream breakfast, the perfect breakfast (in energy terms) and the real breakfast of everyday life as part of our masterpiece, we became aware of the amount of packaging caused by our daily purchases, by collecting this breakfast waste over the course of a week for 8 people. All together, we glued together the paper, plastic, newspaper, cardboard and aluminium packaging to create a NAPPE of the real breakfast of the teenage consumers that we are. In opposition to this real breakfast, we opted to broadcast videos and sound recordings taken in situ of our natural surroundings. Reconciling food and ecology is possible by eating seasonal fruit, avoiding over-processed products, avoiding pesticides, reducing waste in all its forms – in short, by changing our eating habits to adopt a sustainable diet that preserves the environment, biodiversity and natural resources. We all enjoyed a colorful, balanced breakfast of fruit, cereals and dairy products, and enjoyed a creative moment of laughter and sharing.

Chill

CHILL is the title suggested by an eighth-grader after viewing the bear sent by artist Anaël Alaoui-Fdili. In English, “to chill” means to relax, to unwind, to take it easy, to do nothing, to party. This anglicism is part of the everyday language of middle-schoolers lulled by the culture of video games and virtual worlds. For them, it means staying quiet in their daily space, letting themselves go for a chat, recreating a quirky immaterial world where it’s possible to “chill out” in the playground.
During a 6-hour workshop with Anaël Alaoui-Fdili, they took part in the creation of a film combining drawings, photographs, sound captures and videos. The montage materializes their perception of their daily living space. They seized the opportunity to express their feelings about their experience of the work and the space. How can we translate into video what we feel about our environment? The artist gave them the privilege of viewing the pre-editing of the video rushes. This allowed them to appreciate the work in progress. Edited end-to-end, without retouching or splicing, the shots taken by the students follow one another in an intimate exploration of their school. Playing with wide and close-up shots, the idea was to capture in detail the sensations and moods of a shared place. The middle school is a place where students, teachers, school life staff, management and technical staff come together every day. These images give rise to an ambivalent feeling. First, the idea of confinement and of time passing slowly under the constraint of collective rules. Then there’s the need to create a reassuring bubble, to bond, laugh and play. The images show this double game, between wide angles revealing the desire to open their eyes to the world, and tight framing on the details of their school.

This collective artistic production questions the dimensions of a living space known to all, through the projection of the sensitive perception of teenagers at a key stage in their lives.

The Glitch of memories

One by one, the students inject a glitch into their souvenir photograph. Reworking it several times until they have composed a rhythmic slideshow, their photograph gradually seems to alter, perhaps in the image of the trace left in their minds by the chosen moment. Then, like a poem recited aloud, a text is added to describe the chosen moment.
